          Undersecretary Michael Brown

    Michael Brown was appointed by President George Bush as the first Undersecretary of Emergency Preparedness and Response in the newly created Department of Homeland Security in January 2003. As the head of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Mr. Brown coordinates federal disaster response and recovery operations. As Undersecretary, Mr. Brown directs the Strategic National Stockpile, the National Disaster Medical System and the Nuclear Incident Response Team.
